Bio

Rafia Mahli is a writer and artist. She was born and raised in Canada. The youngest daughter of Arab immigrants, she received a bachelor's degree in studio art with a minor in art history from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She spent three years as an apprentice at the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey, in various departments across metal casting and stone carving divisions.
Her more recent training and work experiences have included graphic and production design for publications and in-agency, and work as a technical writer/UX writer/content designer in software and other industries.
She has been accepted twice to Kenyon Review’s online Creative Non Fiction workshop, in Summer 2025 and Winter 2026. In addition to this website, she is currently at work on longer projects spanning both non fiction and fiction genres as well as poems.
She lives and works in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
